Our handmade paper is made from recycled office paper, envelopes, and denim. Tony Sneed, my husband, is the primary paper maker. He shreds the paper, soaks it in water and blends it into pulp in a standard blinder. The pulp is poured into a large tub with more water. A mold and deckle (screen and frame) are used to form the paper by pulling them (one on top of the other) through the mixture and allowing the pulp to settle on the screen and the water to drain off. The remaining pulp is turned out onto a felt or absorbant cloth and pressed to remove as much of the water as possible. Each piece is hung on a window to dry. This allows for one side to be smoother than the other, creating a better writing surface. We often mix in glitter, threads, denim, tea leaves, tea or watercolor to tint the paper prior to the molding process. The paper is allowed to dry on the windows and carefully peeled off.
Tony makes either 5 x 7 or 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of paper. The greeting cards are made by folding the 5 x 7 pages in half. Each card is embellished with images cut from fabric or stamped to make monogrammed note cards. The cards are also hand stamped on the back and placed in individual cellophane bags.
We include envelopes ( also made from recycled paper, but not handmade) with each card.
We sell the fabric embellished cards for $3.50 each or 6 cards for $20.00.
The monogrammed cards are $2.50 each or 6 for $13.00 (one or 2 initials).
We sell the 5 x 7 paper for $1.50 per sheet and the 8 1/2 x 11 paper for $2.50 per sheet, by special order only.
